Tribute Giving: Honorariums and Memorials

Is there someone with whom you have shared a special moment in time or a lifetime of memories? The Society’s tribute program is a wonderful way to honor family and friends throughout the year or to commemorate a particular occasion. From a birth to a birthday, a wedding, a graduation, a retirement, a holiday or hostess gift, or as an expression of thanks or sympathy in memory of someone special, a tribute donation honors anyone who lives within our hearts.

Donations such as these support our regional work in native plant conservation, education, and research. Trees and benches also help enhance the grounds at our headquarters, Garden in the Woods. All tribute donations are a wonderful means of sharing your love and respect for nature.

Trees and Benches at Garden in the Woods

Trees

Honor or remember a unique individual or exceptional event by dedicating a tree at Garden in the Woods as a living tribute for a family member or loved one. A donation of $3,000 allows you to choose from a variety of trees. Options may include the American Beech, Yellow Birch, Eastern Larch, Red Bud, Tulip Tree, and Umbrella Magnolia depending on the current horticulture plan at the time of your tribute. Prior to planting, the Director of Horticulture will discuss the care and maintenance requirements of the species selected.

Benches

A donation of $25,000 will endow the purchase, installation and maintenance of a stone bench in perpetuity. A donation of $5,000 will endow the purchase, installation and maintenance of a wooden bench for a maximum period of ten years. A choice of garden locations will be identified by the Director of Horticulture, dependent on the current plan for the Garden. Future plans for the Garden may necessitate the relocation of any bench. An acknowledgement of the donation is included on a plaque attached to the bench. Wording will be reviewed and approved by the Society.
