Connecting with our Customers

last modified February 19, 2013

The view from Nasami Farm in August 2012 shows the growth of relationships with homeowners, landscape professionals, area farms, and fellow organizations.

Summer is here at Nasami Farm, New England Wild Flower Society’s native plant nursery. This year marks our first year open every weekend throughout the season from mid-April through October. The planting season is normally at its lowest point in mid-August, but this year at Nasami, that hasn’t seemed to stop membersHibiscus moschutos at Nasami Farm, customers, and visitors from coming down to see what we’ve got growing, and even picking something up. Who can blame them? Many of the plants are in bud or bloom and the retail space has been bursting with color. This week Hibiscus moschutos is exploding with large soft pink and white flowers atop 2-3’ stems. The hummingbirds hover above the honeysuckle, and frogs hide in the cool shade of the trees. The common refrains of “Oh, isn’t that lovely!” and “This smells wonderful!” can be heard in chorus with the twitter of the baby songbirds that have fledged from our rafters, and the buzzing of our neighbor’s honeybees.

But beyond the growth of our plants, we’ve also noted with anticipation the growth of new relationships. Being open every weekend has allowed us to make connections with many homeowners, landscape professionals, area farms, and fellow organizations. We’ve formed bonds with regular customers over the well-being of their prized wildflowers, and the evolutions of their gardens over the season, as they stop by to ask questions, find something new, or just chat about what they’ve got growing. And we’ve made new friends, some from as far away as Florida or Montana, some who simply followed the signs from the highway exit, having no idea what they’d find and discovered a treasure trove of interesting plants and information.

Our visibility and dedication to the local community are core values here at Nasami. The evidence of that can be seen in our retail shop, where we source locally made garden and native plant related products. We have locally crafted stone bird baths and bird houses, handmade journals and cards, and more products to come. We also offer a large array of excellent books geared towards stewardship of our native environment, as well as enriching the gardener’s knowledge of and connection to their plants and growing space.

One of our customers said to us - all the way back in April, “For every plant there is an enthusiast.” We have found this to be especially true among the very knowledgeable clientele here at Nasami. We have learned so much, both from our colleagues and our customers, and we hope that we have been as good at disseminating the information that they have shared with us to others who will make good use of it.

From August 18 through Labor Day, we will feature a 20% off sale on all plants. It is a great time to shop for fall plantings.

We’ll be here every weekend through October 28 and we look forward to seeing you!
